Polestar celebrates printing 1.8bn pages in six days

Print firm Polestar is celebrating a bumper holiday season after printing 1.8bn pages of Christmas TV listings in six days.

Publishers H Bauer, BBC Magazines and IPC Media turned to the supplier to produce a combined total of around 8.65m magazines including Radio Times, TV Choice, TV Easy, TV Times and What's On TV.

The magazines were printed on 22 presses and stitched using 16 binding lines at six Polestar sites between December 4 and December 9.

Neil Dunning, customer services director at Polestar Petty, said: "Achieving this each year is a monumental effort from all within Polestar in close coordination with our customers.

"The planning begins in March and the execution of such a critical production plan involving multiple sites is done with military precision."

Polestar recently won a contract to print Hotline, Virgin Rail's 100pp monthly title produced by Ink Publishing.

Back in the 80's we used to print 10m copies of the Radio Times alone, all at BPC sites. There were longer lead times of course, but this is nothing new, still fairly impressive though I suppose!
