Webmart offers advice on keeping costs down
Webmart has issued its top budgeting tips to beat the winter blues following requests from customers.
The print management company gives advice on paper, catalogue sizes and distribution methods.
Businesses are advised to reduce paper weight where possible and consider using a high bulk substrate, as well as opting for smaller sizes to save in postage and production costs.
A spokesman said: "We're being asked many different questions about formats and papers to help keep costs down. By thinking of new ways to print and distribute, we're sure that companies can save themselves a small fortune."
Other recommendations include cutting down on packaging and considering shrink-wrap instead of cartons.
To cut transportation costs, Webmart suggests using a local printer.

Is it just me? - or is the 'Colin Thomson Virus' getting worse?

Advice for Web printers to save money.
1) Don't accept clearance paper from PM companies as when you have several web breaks and folder jams it is your responsibility to argue any recovery costs with the merchant.
2) Don't waste £25 preparing an estimate that you know is going to be 10-25% below 'sustainable' pricing.
3) Due to our weak currency UK print prices as current contracts end will be 30% lower than Europe. Hopefully the £3-400m worth of print currently exported mainly by our PM friends will come back to our shores. Try to rmember this before you accept their silly prices & T&C's.
Sorry Simon - but if you stick your head above the parapet its gonna get blown off - Merry Christmas.

Blimey Simon, you've just become the new Colin Thomson!
So if I use a lighter weight paper and a smaller size, I'll save on postage costs? So that's where I've been going wrong all these years!
Now, what can I spend my small fortune on? mmm.

I have to apologise for the above article- I have no idea where it came from and as far as I know we don't have a "spokesman" \( or "spokeswomen" come to that). My guess is that it is taken from some PR about a speech I did at ECMOD 2 months ago & it's a light news day.
Sorry again- it really is a bit of tat & I'd deride it myself if I hadn't, erm, apparently written it. Anyone know a good PR/ marketing person from the printing industry? I think we need one...
Merry Christmas

I don't want you to misunderstand me. I think you have built a fantastic business, you are a visionary, as honest as the day is long and in the PM world a giant amongst pygmies. As a visionary I believe you will see the storm that's coming and adapt your business accordingly. The PM companies run by sport science & media studies graduates that haven't a clue about print, that take all the margin & don't have an ounce of decency will be soon as extinct as the dinosaurs. Anyone in web that has managed to survive so far is not stupid so please stop telling us how wonderful Webmart is for them. When customers get very low unsustainable prices they'll expect it all the time and that is not good for any of us.
Think about it - Merry Christmas.

Graham- you and I know that "PM" as it is currently percieved is in its dying throws.Having come from the web-offset market & been in print for the last 20 years, the last thing I want to do it harm it. I think the WOPA is a great idea ad I would like to think that we could add something to the party in terms of transparecy to an otherwise opaque market. Anyway enough- I'm Gordon Ramsey'd so need a break & I hope you have one too dude.

lol keep going Mark, I haven´t laughed this much in years. At least your services sound useful, where were you on Christmas day when we ran short of food.
I´d also like to advertise my massage service available in the comfort of customers offices, again maybe of more help and relief than other ramblings.
