Kodak is showcasing upgrades to its sheetfed digital press line-up at Drupa, with new higher speed models including what it claims is the world's fastest cut-sheet black and white machine.

The Digimaster EX300 is a 300 A4ppm machine that will be available next summer, and its speed pips Xerox's 288ppm Nuvera 288 and the 250ppm Océ 6250.

Like the Xerox, the EX300 uses two print engines, one for each side of the sheet, to reach its rated speed.

Kodak said existing Digimaster machines will be upgradable to the high-speed model, which is aimed at high-volume users in the publishing, transactional, government and direct mail markets.

The company also unveiled the S3600 a faster member of the Nexpress family, which runs at 120 A4ppm.

"Digital printing is exploding," Kodak GCG Electrophotographic Printing Solution general manager Steve Fletcher said.

"When customers need more productivity, they aspire for something simpler, or more cost-effective than a forklift upgrade. Most Kodak customers can achieve these new speeds with an upgrade installed on their existing unit."

In addition to the faster machines, the group announced a new textured coating solution for the Nexpress, which uses the press' fifth imaging unit to produce raised, tactile effects for applications including greetings cards, business cards and invitations.
