McLay caps refit with Heidelberg stitcher
A McLay & Company has topped off a £570,000 investment in finishing equipment with a new Stitchmaster from Heidelberg and hinted at more to come.
The Cardiff-based B1 printer previously bought two MBO folders from Friedheim International, one in August 2007 and one in January 2008, at a total cost of £190,000.
Its latest investment, £380,000 on a Stitchmaster ST450, will replace two older Pacesetters – a 455 and 705.
The ST450 runs at speeds of up to 14,000 cycles per hour and can handle A6 to A3 formats.
Richard Kyte, manufacturing manager at A McLay, who started with the company at the same time as the old Pacesetters were being installed, said the Stitchmaster was brought in to improve productivity and efficiency.
He said: “The new machine cuts makeready times significantly. It is fully automated and the previous two were manual. We have upped our running speed considerably.”
Delivery of the Stitchmaster is expected later this month with full production coming on stream at the start of June.
A McLay has also recently attained ISO 14001 and is now gunning for FSC Chain of Custody.
