Clifton's Print Finishers pounces on UK's second Pantera

Clifton's Print Finishers is aiming for faster turnarounds on orders with the UK's second installation of a Muller Martini Pantera perfect binder, complete with a 14-station gathering unit.

The Walthamstow-based company, which has also invested in a Merit S trimmer, hopes the investment will increase capacity to cope with growing demand for short- and medium-run work.

The Pantera comes with an optional polyurethane (PUR) glue system, of which managing director Tim Clifton said: "PUR is what everybody is asking for these days, since it produces a far superior book, especially when binding heavy stocks and it gives a stronger bond that copes well with extremes of temperature."

The 14-staff company carries out the majority of its work for clients in the M25 area and plans to use the new kit to secure more customers.

Production director Steven Meeks told printweek.com: "We plan to acquire and increase our client base with the new binder as it will give us more capacity."

Its finishing department also includes a Horizon B2 folder, a B1 folder and a Sulby Mini Binder.

Clifton's moved into perfect binding two years ago after it bought trade finisher Books A Bound. The company will take delivery of the Pantera in early 2008.
