JDSU puts chameleon coatings in the spotlight
Optical technology company JDSU has developed a colour-shifting flake that makes coatings change hue when seen from different angles.
ColorShift Glitter is said to be extremely durable, allowing for spot repairs on the final product without needing to sand and repaint the entire surface.
The glitter's ChromaFlair pigment is resistant to degradation, helping it maintain its colour and performance properties.
Tom Hughes, decorative product line manager for JDSU's Flex Products Group, said: "Graphic and product designers are constantly looking for the 'wow' factor, a way to differentiate their products from the rest of the pack."
ColorShift Glitter's light interference pigments were produced through the deposition of ultra-thin layered structures.
In order to produce different colours, a thin-film technology is used to control the thickness of the multiple layers that compose the pigment's flake structure.
No details of UK pricing and availability were available at time of press.
