Me & My… EasyDoser

Michael Cassidy, factory manager at Park Communications, has been impressed with the EasyDoser’s design, robust build and reliability

What does the machine do?
The EasyDoser offers semi-automatic dosing of base colours, and the Pantone Formula Scale offers acccurate matches for the Pantone colour system.

Why did you choose this particular machine?

It looked good value for money, and was the right size.

Did you look at any other similar machines?
Yes, I saw some automatic machines at the last Drupa.

Why did you make the purchase?
We have an environmental management system that requires us to continuously look for ways of reducing our impact on the environment, which this machine seemed to offer. In addition, we were moving into a new factory, which caused us to review our working practices and make improvements where we felt we could – again this machine complemented that effort.

What features do you particularly like?
It is simply designed, robustly built and reliable.

Is there anything that you dislike?
It can feel slow dosing large amounts of ink – greater than 2kg of a mix.

Is there anything that you wish it had that it doesn’t?
Self-cleaning nozzles.

How fast is it?
For small amounts less than 1kg, very quick and clean.

How reliable is it?
It’s been very reliable – it hasn’t let us down yet.

What’s the quality like?

Very good.

How easy is it to use?
Dosing mixes is very easy to pick up. Putting fresh tins of the base colours on can be a bit messy and requires some practice.

How much time or money has it saved?
It has not saved a great deal of mixing time, but it has saved many hours of ordering time. It’s also saved on cabbing pre-mixed inks in (several hundred pounds so far) and on contaminated or skinned-over tins of base colours (we always had 20-30 tins like that on the shelf).

Has it won you any new work?

Not specifically, but it contributes to our environmental credentials.
Would you say that it offers value for money?
Very much so.

Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
One or two small teething problems, mainly related to ensuring everybody had some training.

What about the pre- and after-sale service?
Very little need for it, but the supplier is very good.

Who do you think the machine is right for?

It’s for any firm – small, medium or large –that has lots of fairly small (less than 2kg) mixes.

Under what circumstances would you buy another?

Only if we doubled our turnover in the next year.

Supplier’s response
Lincoln Swann, managing director at distributor Cherlyn, says: “Park wanted the flexibility to mix in house, on demand, and reduce their ink waste for both cost and environmental reasons. This unique combination of EasyDoser and Pantone Formula Scale has allowed them to achieve all of these benefits in a clean, exact ink formulation set-up as well as meeting their payback requirements.”
