News International closes monthly science magazine

The closure comes exactly three years after the 64 pp, stitched science and environmental magazine was launched.

At its launch in 2009 Eureka, which was printed at the Liverpool site of global print firm Prinovis, was billed as the first monthly science magazine to be distributed with a national daily newspaper

The closure is expected to affect "a handful of people", according to the company, with all jobs set to be absorbed by The Times and science and environment coverage expected to move online.

It is understood that the move has come as a result of an ongoing decline in advertising revenue as the magazine’s biggest clients have continued to withdraw spending in the environmental sector.

A source said that "with reduced political focus on environmental issues the magazine’s key advertisers have changed direction".
