Epal: pallet audits
Epal warns against 'unsafe' unauthorised pallet repairs
By Jill Park Thursday, 04 February 2010
The European Pallet Association (Epal) has urged pallet users to guard against unauthorised repairs to avoid safety and trade market infringement issues.
EPAL highlighted the growing problem at its Formula 1 logistics day held at RBS Williams' Centre near Oxford on Tuesday.
Delegates were told that pallets repaired by unauthorised bodies could be unsafe and in breach of trademark.
BREPAL chief executive Paul Davidson said that the best way to identify authentic Epal pallets is to look for the Epal stamp on the front left-hand side and the EUR stamp on the front right-hand side.
In the centre of each pallet is an ISPM15 stamp and a quality control staple, which has a holographic image on it.
Pallets that have been repaired will have a nail, with a reference number of the repairer on its head, hit into the central unit with the other stamps.
Epal is offering free user pallet audits to ensure pallets are of the required quality.
