Grand gesture Packaging compliance scheme Valpak raised £1,000 for a clean water project in India during its Gunge Week. Staff nominated colleagues who had bravely put themselves forward for a gunging and buckets of gunge were auctioned off. Andrew Green from British Polythene Industries paid for the privilege of gunging Valpak director of procurement Alan Price. Valpak has raised £3,000 this year for the Kamla Foundation.

Worth a packet A collection of 500 crisp packets assembled over the past 26 years is said to be worth £10,000. East Sussex resident Dave Valentine assembled the packs of Twiglets, Monster Munch and other varieties after not having enough money to collect football stickers. Valentine has been approached by museums and collectors interested in buying his bags but has said he will not sell, despite a £10,000 offer.
Fields of green Packaging News was invited to rock music festival Sonisphere at the end of July to see Coca-Cola’s packaging recycling scheme in action. The soft-drinks giant collected more than six tonnes of
cans, bottles and lids at the five-day event in Knebworth. Festival-goers could exchange their empty bottles for items such as lanyards, bags and ponchos, which proved to be particularly popular, especially considering the event is held during the great British summer.
