GI Solutions cuts 15 jobs after Sitma buy brings greater automation

GI Solutions Group, the direct mailing company, has announced 15 redundancies at its Leicester plant after completing a £1.6m mailing kit spend.

The company, which recently installed a new Sitma envelope enclosing machine, reported that it has greatly improved automation at the plant and has had to cut jobs in its envelope enclosing department as a result.

Robin Welch, managing director of GI Solutions, said: The decision is good news for business, but bad news for the staff. We are doing all we can to help those affected find new positions.

The new Sitma SM20 is capable of running C5 or DL envelopes up to 20,000 packs/hour. The company also has a range of Screen Trupress 520 jets for digital printing.

According to the PrintWeek Top 500 2007, GI Solutions Group has 149 employees and a pre-tax profit of £901,000. Its turnover is said to be around £27m.

The group is split into three businesses. GI Direct handles direct mailing, GI Insight is the company’s marketing branch, while GI Solutions is the print management arm.
