Q I am looking for a printer that can digitally print giftwrap. The substrate size is 700x500mm sheetfed or 700mm-wide reels. The paper spec is coated one side 70-90gsm. Is there anyone out there who can help?
A You might have to compromise somewhat in terms of substrate size. Black Dog in Great Amwell, Hertfordshire, has produced lots of giftwrap. It has the wide-format Xeikon 5000 with a maximum substrate width of 508mm. However, the print width is a bit less than that, although they can do any length. Other 5000 users include: Commercial Resources in Nottingham (0115 978 3337 www.cridigital.co.uk); Face Creative Services in London (020 7713 9797 www.face-creative.co.uk); 1st Byte also in London (0844 815 9662 www.1stbyte.co.uk) Bournemouth’s The Digital Press (01202 300666 www.thedigitalpress.co.uk); and John Dollin of Whitchurch (01256 892969 www.johndollinprinting.co.uk ). Another potential supplier is Croydon’s Real Digital, which has a bespoke inkjet setup that can print 635mm wide by up to 1.5m length. Contact: 020 8603 7000 www.real-digital.co.uk.
Q I’m trying to source fluorescent orange paper on a roll. All I really know at the moment is that it needs to be a minimum of 700mm wide and we’ll require up to 100m of it. It seems fluorescent yellow paper is relatively easy to find, orange not so.

A I’m just catching up on this query, I could have sworn I included it in a Help Line a couple of months back, but can’t find any reference to it. Nevermind, here’s what I have found. A few suggestions came in via the ever-helpful PrintWeek community. ‘Rol Roland’ suggested Enveco in Milton Keynes (www.enveco.co.uk 01908 378866), who were terribly helpful and can supply the required colour, but the minimum quantity would have to be 4,000m as it doesn’t sell from stock in smaller quantities. ‘Ivor Binder’ thought Mike Hough at EPS Paper might be able to help, but here too sadly the answer was no. However, via these earlier clues an answer has emerged, in the shape of speciality papermaker Slater Harrison who came up trumps in the end. Hoorah! Contact: 01625 578900 www.slater-harrison.co.uk.
