White: we must increase efficiency to stay competitive
Boxes Prestige to cut makeready times with double Manroland buy
By Tim Sheahan Wednesday, 10 September 2008
Boxes Prestige has invested in two seven-unit Manroland 700 B1 presses to "considerably" increase capacity and remain competitive in the packaging-printing marketplace.
The machines, which come fitted with dedicated coaters and UV drying capabilities, will be installed at the company's Northampton and Lublin, Poland, sites.
Operations director Mark White said the coater and UV features on the Manroland 700 would help the company "ensure as little downtime as possible between jobs".
"This even included a special intercom system to allow operators at either end of the machine to talk clearly and easily to each other while the press is running," he said.
At the company's Northampton site, one of the Manroland presses replaces an existing Mitsubishi B1 format machine.
According to White, the 17-year-old press was "a great workhorse" but the 700 is expected to halve its existing makeready times.
"To stay competitive, we have to do work to as a high a quality as possible and do it in as efficient a manner as possible," he said.
Boxes Prestige's two new presses incorporate Auto Plate Loading (APL), in addition to a range of QuickChange automation modules that accelerate job changeover.
The company is part of the Clondalkin Specialist Packaging Division and specialises in cartons, labels, leaflets and inserts. It has 18 manufacturing sites including sites in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Poland and the USA.
