Harlow Printing opens door on £2m upgrade

Specialist printer Harlow Printing has opened a purpose-built £2m print facility to house its rapidly expanding print management business.

The digital and offset printer, which specialises in NHS paediatrics design and print, invested in the new site following a 20% increase in turnover last year and increased demand for its print management service.

Finance director at the Tyne and Wear-based company Gordon Parfitt told PrintWeek: "Our turnover has been increasing for a number of years now and, having rented a premises for a few years so as not to hinder our growth, we have now taken the step of purchasing a property to house our print management arm."

Initially serving the NHS, Harlow has expanded its print management service to both private and public clients. Whilst some of the work is processed inhouse, Harlow outsources work to a number of local suppliers that is beyond its capability. The new site hosts material handling equipment and the services and hardware that drive its front end print management software.

Despite the predicted downturn, Parfitt remains optimistic. He said: "Printers don't just print any more, it is about adding value. Customers are looking for additional services and that is what we can offer."

Great news for Harlow and some of the local suppliers they use, a printer turning to print manager - about time! Without Harlow at least two firms that I know about would have went to the wall.

A printer did go to the wall.
