Presstek adds hybrid UV option to DI range

Presstek will launch a UV option for its 52DI and 34DI direct imaging offset presses at this year’s Drupa.

The kit manufacturer, which has worked with ink supplier Toyo Ink on the project, will unveil two UV printing options for the presses at the show.

Ray Hillhouse, Presstek sales and operations director Europe, said: “From a customer point of view, we have seen a lot of demand for this. It is an optional upgrade, an update on existing presses.”

Presstek will also be involved with developments in web-to-print and plates during Drupa.

The hybrid UV option allows for switching between standard waterless ink and UV waterless ink, and will be available in Q4 of 2008.

The UV option for operating the DI as a UV waterless press will be available in the third quarter of 2008. Klaus Schleicher, Presstek group product director, said: “Printing with UV waterless inks on Presstek’s DI presses expands our opportunity to provide the highest quality, lowest cost four-colour offset press for a wide range of markets.”

Schleicher added: “In line with our overall strategy, UV waterless inks are environmentally friendly, with no VOCs, reduced energy consumption, less makeready waste and faster drying times.”

Presstek will be showcasing the UV option on both the 52DI and the 34DI in Hall 4, Stand A55.
