The release of FlightCheck v6.10 is a milestone in the product’s long history, according to manufacturer Markzware. The firm’s flagship pre-press tool, managing the quality control of digital files, has been souped up to work up to four times faster than previous versions.

Updates include enhanced preflighting performance and QuarkXPress 7 compatibility, which has improved reporting on font paths.

In addition, its Ground Control application lets users manage and create hundreds of preflight checklists.

This is done by simply turning on warnings and error flags in order to customise inspections to focus on particular aspects of a document.

These profiles can be saved and shared between users by importing them into other FlightCheck applications.

The Professional system warns of potential printing problems and guides the user directly to the issue for repair. Errors are highlighted item by item during a full analysis of the print job. Checks include document size, missing fonts, incorrect colours, transparency of spot colours and incorrect image resolution.

FlightCheck then collects all the required elements of the print job, such as fonts and images, to ensure that jobs are produced to standard. It can preflight a variety of file formats and image types including QuarkXPress, Acrobat PDF, Adobe InDesign, PageMaker, Illustrator and Photoshop and CorelDraw.

Markzware says version v6.10 reinforces its commitment to the printing market by providing superior usability and productivity, and that it enables its customers to ensure quality for a modest investment.  

Upgrades to FlightCheck Professional and Designer v6.1 are free for existing v6.0 users, while v5.0 users can upgrade to the latest sysyem for £139. New users must pay £329.
