LG claims world first with colour e-paper display
LG Philips has produced what it has called the world’s first 14.1in flexible colour electronic-paper display - roughly the same dimensions as an A4 sheet of paper.
LG has claimed the image quality is comparable to printed products.
Previously, e-paper of this size and specification had only been available in black and white.
The flexible panel uses colour technology from E Ink to produce up to 4,096 colours and can be viewed from 180 degrees, meaning the image is always visible, even when the display is bent.
The TFT (thin-film transistor) panel is arranged on a flexible foil substrate, which is laminated to protect the circuitry and other components from heat damage during manufacture, and physical deformation while in use.
The displays, which are less than 300-micrometres thick, are energy efficient and only draw power when the image changes.
Despite LG's claim that the quality of the display is as good as print, our printweek.com poll revealed our readers are less than convinced. As the poll closed, 53 per cent believed that epaper is not a genuine threat to print.

Exciting developments that will eventually lead to the revolution of certain sectors of what is now the print marketplace. As Bob Dylan said ' them times, they are a changin' ( well he would have done if he was from Yorkshire...)
