Premier continues move from GM2 with first Scots warehouse

Paper merchant Premier Paper Group has boosted its presence in Scotland after it opened a new warehouse in Glasgow.

In addition to the paper merchant's existing sales office, the warehouse can hold 1,000 tonnes of paper for same- or next-
day delivery.

Five delivery vehicles service the area and six staff have been hired to meet the expected demand.

The site will be headed up by branch manager Andy Armstrong and regional director Stephen Paul is also based there.

managing director Graham Griffiths said the company had been present in Scotland for the past ten years, but had never had a warehouse or a dedicated fleet north of the border.

The move is part of Premier's planned withdrawal from GM2 Logistics, the distribution arm of merchants James McNaughton and Antalis.

The paper merchant plans to completely withdraw from GM2 and set up its own logistics company by the fourth quarter of 2009.

GM2 was part of the Premier Paper Group when the merchant was a subsidiary of Antalis. When Beswick Paper acquired Premier Paper Group for £19m in March last year, this involvement ended.

Premier Paper marketing manager Dave Jones added the company had not ruled out further expansion.

He said: "We will look to boost our existing 16 sales and warehouse branches that already exist across the UK as and when an opportunity presents itself."

In January, the company also opened a new stock holding branch in Langley, Berkshire.
