Heseltine buoys print with Drupa message

Drupa had one of its most high-profile visitors last week when Michael Heseltine, the former deputy prime minister and owner of PrintWeek publisher Haymarket Media Group, toured the halls.

Lord Heseltine visited a number of exhibitors including KBA, Komori, Heidelberg, Kodak and Körber PaperLink as well as visiting the Drupa team and the offices of the Drupa Report Daily, the daily newspaper produced by Haymarket for the show.

Speaking after the show, Lord Heseltine said that the event had driven home the strength of the worldwide print industry and underlined Haymarket’s commitment to the sector.

“The size and popularity of the show prove that print has a strong future and is thriving alongside online media rather than being damaged by it,” he said.

“Drupa is a key event in Haymarket’s calendar and it was fascinating to meet some of the people who are working so hard to transform the printing industry.

“It was also a sign of our commitment to the print and packaging industries across the world and a hugely important step in our plans to expand our coverage of those industries in the coming years.”

Haymarket now publishes print magazines and websites in the UK, Germany, India and Australia and also has licence agreements for PrintWeek in the Middle East, Ukraine and Russia.

The Drupa Report Daily, a 48pp bilingual English/German tabloid, had a print run of 10,000 and was distributed in the halls at Drupa.
