Star Product: HP inkjet web press
Thursday, 15 May 2008
PrintWeek columnist Sean Smyth reckons this machine will take Drupa by storm, and it’s easy to see why.
The inkjet web press operates at a staggering 762mm wide and an output rate of 122m per minute, working out at 2,600 A4 pages per minute – outperforming any other digital press currently on the market, it could even give some offset presses a run for their money. Its maximum resolution is 600dpi and it uses scalable inkjet printing technology. HP is aiming the new press, known as the HP Inkjet Web Press, at multiple markets including books, newspapers, transactional and transpromo, and direct mail. But if you want one then you’ll have to wait; HP plans to start shipping the press at the end of 2009 at the earliest.
