Innovation will be at the top of the agenda for cosmetic packaging guru Gérald Martines following his move from RPC to Rexam as director of new product development and innovation of makeup.

Martines' new role, which was created especially for him, will be to lead new product development worldwide across the makeup division, which encompasses fragrance and cosmetic closures.

"My focus is to take the innovation that is really very strong at Rexam and take that one step beyond in recognition of the fact that today, more than ever, this is a key element in servicing our customers," Martines told Packaging News.

"Rexam's belief is that, especially in the current economic context, it is critical to raise the bar on innovation in order to provide Rexam's customers with novel solutions to address the challenges of the time, get ready for the future and differentiate themselves from their competition," he said.

Martines has joined Rexam from RPC Bramlage-Wiko where he has been business development manager since 2008.

He joined Crown Risdon as business manager for the fragrance line in 1997. When the company was acquired by RPC in 2006 he was appointed general manager of RPC Beauté.
